Europa Cantat XVII Utrecht Festival

For the first time in 50 years Europa Cantat will be held in The Netherlands. During this festival for singers many musical genres will be covered. The Netherlands Radio Choir will give a concert which includes music by the Swedish Sven-David Sandström.

From 17 until 26 July Utrecht will buzz with singers. During this period the Europa Cantat XVII Festival will take place. The Netherlands Radio Choir will also be participating. On 19 July Celso Antunes will conduct a concert featuring among others the brand new piece Drei Gedichte von Egon Schiele by Sven-David Sandström. The Choir premiered this on 29 June. During Europa Cantat the Netherlands Radio Choir can be heard on 19 July at appr. 9.05 p.m. in the Jans Church. Soloists will be Peter Gijsbertsen, tenor, and Andreas Hörl, bass.
The concert, however, will start at 8.45 p.m. with a performance by the French National Children's Choir.

Different cultures
Europa Cantat is a network of choirs, singers and conductors in Europe. This federation has been in existence since 1960. Every three years it organises a large scale choral festival in a European city. Aim is the improvement of the quality of vocal music and through music of contacts between different cultures. This is the first time in fifty years the festival will be held in The Netherlands.

Concerts and workshops
Some 3,000 singers will travel to Utrecht for the Festival. There will be numerous possibilities to join workshops and seminars and to actually sing. The Dom square will be festival square. All musical genres will be represented. There will also be an extensive program with concerts.

Excellent company
The Netherlands Radio Choir finds itself in excellent company. Prominent musicians such as Ton Koopman and his Amsterdam Baroque Choir, the Ale Möller Band (Sweden), Rajaton (Finland), Shura Lipovsky and Dhroeh Nankoe will also perform during this Festival.
