Michael Gläser to be permanent guest conductor

Starting the 2010-2011 season Michael Gläser has been appointed permanent guest conductor of the Netherlands Radio Choir. This appointment is the confirmation of an excellent collaboration over the past seasons. With the combination of chief conductor Celso Antunes and Michael Gläser as a permanent guest conductor the Netherlands Radio Choir now has a special couple at its disposal which is capable of even enhancing the quality of the choir.
Perfectionism
Michael Gläser has regularly been working as a guest conductor with the Netherlands Radio Choir since 2005. He has also been guest-conducting prominent choirs in Germany and other European countries. Thus in March 2008 he made his debut at the Choeur de Radio France. The Netherlands Radio Choir especially appreciates him for his vast knowledge and musicality, for his perfectionism in the areas of intonation and choral sound, but mainly for his motiviation to make music under any circumstances.
Eric Ericson Masterclass
Chief conductor Celso Antunes has the final responsibility for artistic and technical matters of the Netherlands Radio Choir. As a permanent guest conductor Michael Gläser will participate in discussion about enhancing the quality of the choir and rehearsal techniques. He will also be involved in artistic evaluations, trainee projects and the training of new choir conductors. In June 2011 Michael Gläser and Jos van Veldhoven will be the instructors at the bi-annual Eric Ericson Masterclass in Haarlem.
The 2010-2011 season
In the coming season Michael Gläser will be participating in the concert of 10 September 2010 in De Vrijdag van Vredenburg. This offers a Brahms program together with the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic conducted by Philippe Herreweghe. Gläser will also be rehearsing the Choir for the ZaterdagMatinee of 23 April 2011. Then Markus Stenz will conduct the Dutch premiere of Braunfel's 'Te Deum' with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra.
Some history
Michael Gläser has been a member of the choir of the Thomasschule in Leipzig between 1967 and 1978 . He studied singing and conducting in Leipzig and Berlin and has been employed as a leader of choirs, among others the choir of the Leipziger Hochschule, the Gewandhauschor in Leipzig, the Berliner Singakademie and the Rundfunkchor Leipzig. In 1986 Michael Gläser became assistant-conductor at the Rundfunkchor Berlin. From 1990 to 2005 he has been the artistic director of the Bavarian Radio Choir. He has been a professor for choral conducting at the Musikhochschule in Munich between 1967 and 1978.
